Esaunggul.ac.id, In an effort to increase literacy and basic skills of outdoor activities among the younger generation, the Nature Lovers Student Association (HIMPALA) of Universitas Esa Unggul again organized an activity entitled Orienteering Short Course, which was held on Saturday, June 14, 2025. This activity was attended by dozens of students and school students as a tangible form of HIMPALA’s contribution in building individual capacity in navigation and survival techniques in the open air.

The event was officially opened by remarks from the Chief Executive, Adnan Arfansyah, followed by remarks from Idris B. Kamad, Amd.Kes as the representative of Student Affairs, and Vice Rector III of Universitas Esa Unggul, Ari Pambudi, S.Kom., M.Kom. In his speech, Vice Rector III emphasized the importance of activities like this as part of the development of student soft skills.

This activity presented an experienced resource person in the field of orienteering and outdoor activities, namely Syamsudin Zubair (familiarly called Bang Bitel), who delivered interactive material on map reading techniques, compass use, terrain navigation, to direction and positioning strategies. Participants showed high enthusiasm through active discussions and constructive questions.

The session continued with fun orienteering, which is a direct practice of individual navigation in the field. Participants were challenged to apply the knowledge they had learned by walking along the prepared route. The competitive spirit and sportsmanlike cooperation were evident throughout the activity.

After the practical session, participants participated in a material review and field evaluation, as a form of reinforcement of understanding and reflection on the learning process that took place throughout the day. The highlight of the event was marked by the announcement of the fun orienteering winners and the distribution of prizes to the best groups, welcomed by all participants.

In his statement, the Rector of Universitas Esa Unggul, Dr. Ir. Arief Kusuma Among Praja, ST, MBA, IPU, ASEAN Eng, expressed his appreciation for the students’ initiative that integrates education and real experience in outdoor activities.

“We are very proud of the spirit of Universitas Esa Unggul students, especially HIMPALA, in developing leadership potential, field skills, and collaborative spirit. Activities like this not only equip students with technical skills, but also foster resilient characters, love nature, and are able to take roles in various situations,” said the Rector.

The activity was closed with a group photo of all participants, organizers, and presenters, as well as thanks to all those who have supported the success of the event. The spirit of learning and togetherness that is built is expected to be an important provision for participants in the journey of self-development with HIMPALA Universitas Esa Unggul.
